FAQ

Lincoln Hartlaub is a teenage author. Read below to learn how he accomplished writing, and publishing his book, The Novus.

Q: How did you begin writing, and what kept you motivated?

A: Growing up, I'd constantly had "great" ideas for books, but no will to ever finish. What was different about The Novus, was that I had intended to write it as a short story. After just a day of formulating the idea, however, I knew I could turn it into a novel.

Q: What did you learn while writing The Novus?

A: While writing The Novus, I learned that it's important to never underestimate the power of letting other people review your work. For instance, I didn't allow my mother to read it until the fifth draft. She didn't even know what it was about until then.

Q: In what ways did The Novus change as you wrote it?

A: The development of the plot throughout the process of writing and rewriting The Novus was extreme. In the first draft, the city in the novel went through another war, and Alice Kingston's name was Pelagus Ingenium. However embarrassing my original thoughts of The Novus were, I believe the changes I made to it ultimately crafted a great story.

Q: Do you have plans for the sequel to The Novus?

A: Yes, the sequel is completely planned. I've already began writing it, and I'm afraid it will be hard to stop. For me, the most important thing about the sequel is making sure it provides the most satisfactory ending possible.

Q: Did you have to research a lot during the writing of The Novus?

A: Throughout the writing process, I relied more on my imagination than proven scientific facts. Given that the novel is set in the future, I believe I can stretch the boundaries to what is possible in this fictional world.
